Weekly Update for 30 August 2006

Work on the River Launch is progressing, with all frames now up and in place and the floor timbers and keel being formed this week. Dan Atkins is about to place the Horn timber into position.
The timber being used in the framing of the hull is Amoora ( Amoora Cucullata) from plantations in New Guinea. The planking will be in Fijian Kauri,(Dakua Makadre) the preferred timber for boats being built to survey by Marine Safety Victoria.
The ADD (average dried weight of Amoora is 540 Kg/m3 and the ADD of Fijian Kauri is 550 kg/m3.
The shape of the hull is now clearly visible with its flat under-sections and sharp turn at the bilge. This will develop very good form stability and low drag.
